Meet IPFA Mercy Ministries Director
My name is Jacktone Oketch. I love Jesus, He is my personal savior. I am the Director of IPFA Mercy Ministries. IPFA Mercy Ministries is an independent charity owned by the Independent Pentecostal Fellowship in Africa Church. Through IPFA Mercy Ministries, Christians in Kenya and beyond are living out who they say they are by putting their faith in action and providing help, hope, and God’s love to children in need. They are building caring relationships with orphaned and vulnerable children and their families who are struggling, and moving them beyond the expressed needs to help address the underlying issues that contribute to poverty and hopelessness in general.
The passion to run a church based charity to empower and give hope of life to orphans and vulnerable children is a deep desire from the bottom of my heart as I had faced the same challenges these children are passing through having I been fatherless at a tender age of 12 years. Indeed the 21st century orphans and vulnerable children face a myriad of problems that affect their in many ways. As for the pressures of making choices of life, unavailability of good and proper mentors, poor education, shelter , health and good nutrition, stigma and discrimination and the rapid decline of moral standards at home and the society at large.
The consequences of the above challenges are very painful as characterized by the pressure of desperation, hopelessness and empty unfulfilled lives. This is reflected in our society through rampant increases in alcoholism, school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, early and forced marriages, violence, promiscuity and drug abuse.
But thanks to God for through my one year study at BJARKA -SABY ( BIBEL OCH TRAINING SKOLAN ) - LINKOPING SWEDEN, I was able to visit Hungary and the part of the class that visited Romania. Afterwards as we were sharing from our trip report I realized that what I had gone through early in life when I became fatherless was actually a tool I could use to motivate and encourage orphans, vulnerable children and youth who face similar challenges in Kenya today. In fact the problems and challenges that orphans, vulnerable children and youth face in Hungary and Romania are not different to those faced by the Kenyan children except for the fact that the poverty level in Kenya is much higher.
Finally, the way to eradicate this menace from our society is simply by finding ways and means of developing merciful hearts towards orphans and vulnerable children including the youth in our society. That is why at IPFA Mercy Ministries we aim to teach all and sundry that in these days the Lord is providing for the widow and the fatherless, not by a miracle in sending manna from heaven, not by sending ravens to bring them food; but by a miracle upon human hearts, enabling those He touches their hearts to expel selfishness and unseal the fountains of Christ-like love. The ORPHAN, the WIDOW, and the afflicted and bereaved ones in our society the Lord commit to His followers - me and you as a precious trust who should therefore have the very strongest claim upon our sympathy. In homes supplied with life’s comforts, in bins and granaries filled with the yield of abundant harvests, in warehouses stocked with the products of the loom, and vaults stored with gold and silver, God has supplied means for the sustenance of these needy ones. He calls upon us to be channels of His bounty.
